Project 365 Day #197
“Jolene,” released in 1973
When you think about it, a song from the perspective of a woman begging another woman to leave her man alone, it is so, so sad on so, so many levels.
Weirdly, it’s also a banger. It’s enduring popularity 50 years after its initial release is proof of that. According to Wikipedia, it’s also been covered at least twelve times by artists as varied as Lil Nas X, Pentatonix, and The White Stripes.
This, naturally, only adds to its well deserved popularity.
