How does A Tribe Called Quest keep getting better? I don’t know. But I know they make all the right decisions on this song. Not only do they sample Elton John to perfection, but they got Jack White singing the chorus, and the whole thing is a tribute their sadly deceased member Phife Dawg.
And don’t even get me started on the lyrics. Though it is a relatively short ditty, it’s packed with serious message on top of serious message. They tackle racism, discrimination, gentrification, and the heap of injustices perpetrated by those with power.
As young men, A Tribe Called Quest was a strong voice in the world of hip hop. As grown ass men, they are a force to be reckoned with.
