“Luckenbach, TX (Back to the Basics of Love)” from the album Ol’ Waylon, released in 1977

Guys like Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson are always referred to as “outlaw country” singers. Sometimes I wonder if this has less to do with their off stage antics and more to do with the fact that they aren’t scared of honestly expressing their emotions in their songs.

Based on what I know of popular country music in the United States, that’s kind of strange. Usually the popular country songs blasting over the radios have something to do with beer and how pretty girls are or some other bit of nonsense.

Jennings though, sings from the soul, revealing his truth with a sincerity that I’m certain scares people. “Luckenbach, TX (Back to the Basics of Love)” is just another example of that.

See what else I’ve placed on Project 365 here.
