“Centerfold” from the album Freeze Frame, released in 1981

Ah, listen, it’s the Madonna vs. whore dilemma played out in a rock pop song from the early 80s! Poor J. Geils. He cannot seem to get his feelings of lust and his feelings of loss in check. They conflict with one another through this whole song in a, frankly, sexist way. Ultimately though, Geils decides to accept that both the Madonna and the whore can exist within the woman he is crushing on.

We can take it a step further too and guess that maybe he can also decide that niether can exist as well.

Hell, in many ways, this is a song about growth.

It also has quite the beat and rhythm. So, you know, it’s got that going for it.

See what else I’ve placed on Project 365 here.
