“Stick Season” has lyrics that are deeply revealing, bitter sweet, and speak to the conflict in all of us. It’s a profound and specific exploration of regret and loss and feeling left behind. With a bluegrass sound that band’s like Mumford and Sons wish they could grasp, Noah Kahan offers listeners some pure, unadulterated Americana for the post-Covid 21st century.
What surprises me is its appeal to the kids. It just feels like a song for people who’ve lived more, seen more, and done more than your average young adult.
Then again, these kids today have dealt with more than most of us ever did.
