Project 365 Day #295
“The Weight” from the album Music From Big Pink, released in 1968
One of the most significant songs in the last century, “The Weight” tells the story of some guy visiting some town named Nazareth. Inspired by the films by Spanish filmmaker Luis Buñuel with characters inspired by some of The Weight’s friends, the song follows the most paradoxical rule of writing that exists: The more specific your writing is, the more universal the appeal.
You add that to the fact that the music is soothing and smooth, and really you do not need any more explanation as to why it’s such a significant song.
