“Hallelujah” from the album Shrek (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), released in 2001

That’s right, I’m going with the oft ignored and always amazing John Cale’s rendition of “Hallelujah.” It’s another one of thos Christmas-adjacent songs but for me it will always and forever be a Shrek song. And Cale’s version, lest we forget, is the one we hear when we watch the movie.

I know it predates the movie and I know all versions are great. Cale’s is the most important to me though because it’s a family thing. My wife and I went to see the movie on our way to Vegas to get married, Shrek 2 was my son’s first movie, and Shrek The Third was my daughter’s.

So this song choice on Project 365 is more personal than almost any other.

See what else I’ve placed on Project 365 here.
