“Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang” by Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg

“Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang” from the album The Chronic, released in 1992

“Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang” is either West Coast hip hop, G-funk, gangsta rap, or R&G depending on who you ask… and probably a few more genres.

I’ll throw it into whatever genre you want, as long as I get to listen to it. Another example of amazing sampling (“I Want’a do Something Freaky to You” by Leon Haywood for those keeping score), this song is, in many ways, the pinnacle of that West Coast sound. But it isn’t just the rythm and beats, it’s the lyrics too. They posture. They vent. They wax philosophic on criminal activities.

Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg gifted us with this song and I, for one, will always listen all the way through.

See what else I’ve placed on Project 365 here.
